‘Why are Charity Shops so important? Shop local, reduce waste and support Shuttlewood Clarke Foundation’
By Alice Wright
Charity Shops are becoming increasingly visible on our high streets and are estimated to save the local councils in the UK at least £31 million a year in waste reduction costs.
‘Fast-Fashion’ is on the rise and is thought to be harmful and destructive to our environment, due to the impact it has through carbon emissions.
Reducing reliance on cheap throwaway goods and shopping for pre-loved or upcycled items, provides the perfect opportunity to shop sustainability and save money at the same time.
Helen Baxter, of the Foundation said: “charity shops provide an alternative and ethical way to shop.
“As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, they are becoming even more important places, providing good quality items at a fraction of the price.”
As the Covid-19 pandemic has taught us, shopping locally and supporting those in our local neighbourhood, is so important.
Helen added: “shopping in this way provides a dual benefit, the consumer is able to purchase goods at a reasonable price and the charity is able to raise additional funds, to continue providing much needed services and support in the local community.”
We are always grateful to receive donations or clean, quality items for resale in our charity shops! So whether you are shopping or donating, your continued support is appreciated!
